I’m Raising a Lutheran!

I had a really funny conversation with Alex last night.  I was raised Catholic (sort of) and we attend the Catholic church sometimes.  The kids r\seem to enjoy the Sunday preschool when it’s available.  But Alex won’t be able to go to that once she completes Kindergarten — at that point she is supposed to start taking religion classes that would lead to First Communion in a few years.  So I asked her about it last night.  Keep in mind that she does know about First Communion as they have discussed it in the Sunday preschool.

Me:  When you finish Sunday preschool the next step is religion classes so you can do First Communion.  What do you think about that?

Alex:  No thanks.

Me:  Oh?  Why not?

Alex:  I already go to school, I don’t want to do more school.

Me:  I see.  Well, if you don’t do First Communion you can’t get married in the church when you’re all grown up.

Alex:  Ok

(I knew this wouldn’t mean much to her since she often tells me she doesn’t want to get married — she just wants to grow up and have a horse farm).

Me:  Well, do you plan to go to church when you’re grown up?

Alex:  Yes.

Me:  What church are you going to go to?

Alex:  Lutheran of course.

Well, ok, then, I’m raising a Lutheran — and I had no idea 🙂

I suppose I could push (aka encourage) her to go to the religion classes but, honestly, I didn’t like them when I was a kid either and I was always in trouble for asking too many questions.  So I’m not sure what I’ll do at this point but I had to laugh at how confident Alex was about her answer!
