Trying to Get Started Again

It’s been a long time since I’ve written a post.  A lot of things have happened in the last nine months especially with my having been so sick and ending up in the hospital repeatedly.  I’m trying not to think too much about all the negative things and  instead focus on some of the more positive events.

Since I have had more time at home I have really enjoyed spending more time with the kids.  Alex and Mac and I lived at libraries this summer — books, videos, summer reading programs, lots of activities.  Some favorite events included Babaloo, The McDonald Magic Show, and anything involving a craft project 🙂

I have been getting a lot more reading accomplished these days — I’ll post my books read in the last few months since I decided to try and keep track of them.  I think this will be particularly helpful for those books in a series since I always manage to lose track of which ones I have finished.

The reversal surgery was a relative success — I am probably as close to “normal” as I’ll ever be for someone without a colon.  I have days when my body just doesn’t want to function quite right and I feel lousy — but these bouts come and go and since there’s not much to be done about it I just have to learn to adapt.  It was very nice this summer to be able to swim again with the kids and to have more freedom of movement then I felt had before the reversal.

The kids are both doing well — Alex has started First Grade and Mac is back at Goddard (preschool) part-time.   Alex is still taking riding lessons and loving it.  Mac is on break from swimming due to expenses, we’ll see about how things go whether we can start him up again or not.  We have been taking part in a 4-H group which is nice because I can take both kids to the meetings and events — they have been having a lot of fun with that.   Mac turned 5 in August and is full of energy and mischief and love.  Alex is growing up so quickly it just amazes me how much she has changed in just the past year — she still wants to be a farmer when she grows up with lots of horses and every other animal you can imagine 🙂

The animal family are all doing well also — MacKayla the Empress, Joel Gray and William the Oranges, Tinkerbelle the Hamster (who has had some recent close calls with William who seems to think she would make a lovely dinner!) and Lady the Brittany mix.

So that is where things are for now and here’s a recent photo of the kids 🙂
